Dec 17, 2021 (newstodate): Icelandair has surprised the market with announcing a new US destination in 2022: Raleigh-Durham International Airport.
Serving the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina, the new destination will open from May 12, 2022, with Icelandair providing four weekly rotations from Keflavik Airport with Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft until October 2022.
North Carolina's RTR opens a market of not least a large, young professional population and a large population of college students that will see Icelandair as the first provider of direct nonstop flights to Europe.
The first new international route at Raleigh-Durham Airport since 2019, the Icelandair flight is also the first new route supported by incentives under an air service development program designed to recruit more international flights.
