Dec 02, 2021 (newstodate): The noose around the neck of the Belarus carrier Belavia will be further tightened as the Council of the European Union today issues a new package of sanctions.
To be formally announced in the Official Journal of the European Union, Belavia will be barred from leasing aircraft from western lessors and airlines.
Today, Belavia's aircraft fleet comprises 29 units, 13 of which are leased from western leasing companies.
Among the leased aircraft are three E195 and two E175 aircraft leased from the Danish lessor Nordic Aviation Capital under a contract signed in November 2018 with the last delivery on September 4, 2020, as well as two more aircraft on earlier lease contracts.
Belavia is already banned from entering EU airspace.
