Nov 25, 2021 (newstodate): The Ukrainian president is adamant to spur the setup of a new national carrier.
Claiming that the domestic market in Ukraine of air transportation does not meet all strategic needs of the state, the country needs to set up a new national air carrier, the president said, according to the official website of the Presidential Office.
The French government has lready agreed to support the plan, dedicating an aviation consultant to support the planning process.
-The work to set up the new airline has started as of today, the president said during a forum this week, "Great Construction: Aviation. Tourism".
According to the president, the state is ready to invest in the project and is now seeking international support.
According to Ukrainian news media, Ukraine has signed an MoU with Airbus for lease of 22 Airbus aircraft for the proposed new airline, with no further details at this stage.
Serving the country today is loss-making Ukraine International Airlines, owned by three minority shareholders after the state sold its 61 percent stake in 2011.
