Nov 19, 2021 (newstodate): Russia's Kaliningrad Airport at Russia's enclave on the Baltic Coast has now been granted unrestricted 7th Freedom Rights for five years, with effect from the start of this month.
Since 2014, the airport has been operating with Fourth Freedom Rights, allowing foreign air carriers flying from Kaliningrad only to one of the third countries with a flight to their own country.
Now, foreign airlines may carry passengers, cargo and mail not just between destinations in own country and Kaliningrad, but also between own country, third countries and Kaliningrad.
Hopes at Khabrovo Airport are now that discussions with low-cost carrier including Wizz Air, Ryanair and EasyJet can be lifted to new levels.
So far only St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport has enjoyed 7th Freedom Rights since 2020, which also immediately lured Wizz Air as the first LCC to set up a base at the airport.
