Nov 17, 202 (newstodate): SAAB has won a significant approval by FAA to introduce its Remote Tower System in the USA.
On September 29, 2021, the FAA granted SAAB with its Operational Viability Decision on the Saab Remote Tower System, authorizing the continued provision of air traffic control services by controllers using the system at Leesburg Executive Airport, Virginia.
The FAA decision has positioned the Leesburg airport – one step closer to permanent ATC services, while avoiding the increasing costs of constructing and maintaining a conventional, multi-story ATC tower.
SAAB’s first rTWR system deployment in Sweden was certified and commissioned in April 2015, and systems are now in operation or being tested at over a dozen international airports.
