Nov 08, 2021 (newstodate): The low-cost carrier Norwegian is gaining altitude again, lifting over 1 mio passengers in October 2021 on routes in Europe and the Nordic regions.
Now with 48 aircraft in service and planning for a fleet of 64 aircraft in time for the summer 2022 schedule, the carrier's cargo capacity is growing correspondingly - and cargo does have a role to play.
-Passenger demands remains our core focus, determining which new routes to set up and which frequencies to increase, says Andreas Hjornholm, Director, Head of Communication and Public Affairs Nordics.
-Having said that, cargo also plays a significant role as an ancillary, a supporting business segment.
-In Europe, road transportation is a strong competitor, so our cargo shipments are primarily commodities with a short shelf life, or shipments requiring fast delivery. Our cargo is primarily commodities like seafood destined for the European markets, while the pharmaceutical industries constitute another significant market for us, generating transportation of vaccine and medicines, says Mr Hjornholm.
