Nov 09, 2021 (newstodate): Perishable Center North AS expects to see the opening of a dedicated seafood air cargo terminal at Evenes Airport in the latter half of 2023.
So far, Perishable Center North AS with main shareholders including Nordlaks Opdrett, Ellingsen Seafood, Salfra and Astafjord Export has signed an LoI with developer Evenes Tomteselskap AS that will construct the facility and rent it to the client.
-Hopes are that a final decision will be made soon, allowing for the start of the design work, the approval process and construction of the coming new terminal that will then commence production after some 18-20 months of construction works, says Stig Winther, Perishable Center Nord CEO.
-The planned terminal will be built in phases, allowing for upscaling as warranted by the market; for a start the terminal will be designed with capacity to handling of cargo for two daily freighters, says Mr Winther.
When realized, the planned terminal will be the country's first dedicated seafood cargo terminal outside of Oslo, and will drastically reduce the volume of trucking loads of shipments heading for uplift from Oslo Airport.
