Nov 22, 2021 (newstodate): Iceland's Keflavik Airport will have a new taxiway to optimize aircraft movements.
A tender had been won by the Icelandic construction company Istak to construct a new 1,200 m taxiway connecting the runway and the apron area to allow for faster exit from the runway as well as optimal ground maneuvering under adverse weather conditions.
The project also includes a new taxiway lighting system, with all construction work to be completed before the end of 2022.
Part of the same tender, Istak will also construct the next phase of the new east wing of Leif Eiríksson Air Terminal.
