One Boeing 757 aircraft has now departed for a three-month project that includes flights from Punta Arenas in Chile to Union Glacier in Antarctica.
From Punta Arenas, the aircraft will fly tourists, hikers, and scientists from Antarctic Logistics & Expedition to and from Union Glacier on Antarctica.
A total of three crews will be in charge of the project, each crew consisting of three pilots, four flight attendants and two flight engineers.
In addition, Icelandair will operate two flights by Loftleidir from Oslo in Norway to the Troll research station in Antarctica, scheduled to take place in early December.
The purpose of these flights is to ferry scientists between Norway and the research station in Antarctica, run by the Norwegian Polar Institute.
These flights will be provided with a Boeing 767 aircraft with a cabin crew consisting of pilots, flights attendants and flight engineers.
Already in February 2021, Icelandair operated a similar project on behalf of Loftleidir.
