Nov 25, 2021 (newstodate): Several countries are now contesting for management contracts in Afghanistan's Kabul Hamid Karzai Airport.
First, Turkey announced its offer to the Taliban government to take over the management of the airport to secure its reconstruction and gradual resumption of international flight operations.
Next, Qatar came in with a similar proposal - which has now prompted the UAE to enter the scene in an obvious effort to block rival Qatar's influence in Afghanistan.
The airspace of Afghanistan still remains closed to overflights and Kabul Airport is operating only scant humanitarian and repatriation flights in addition to select domestic flights.
