Nov 23, 2021 (newstodate): The last MD-80 aircraft in the fleet of the Danish carrier DAT has now performed its final flight.
The aircraft has been ferried to Payam International Airport in Iran, to end as a reservoir of spares and components for the Iranian carrier Taban Air that operates four MD-88 aircraft in its fleet.
Entering service with the UK charter carrier Airtours in 1990 and serving with DAT from January 2010, the MD-83 gained world fame from serving the Coca-Cola World tour to promote the WM finals in Brazil from August 2013 till November 2020.
Among the last and more spectacular missions performed with the DAT MD-83 was its role in evacuating Danes and other nationals out of Afghanistan in August 2021, including 431 Afghans that had served the Danish military and diplomatic mission.
The flights were performed between Denmark and Pakistan's Islamabad International Airport, with DAT's CEO Jesper Rungholm in the driver's seat.
