Nov 02, 2021 (newstodate): The sustained and strong demand in the air cargo market leads to an injection of capacity in the Danish cargo carrier Star Air.
In 2022, the airline will take three Boeing 767 cargo aircraft on a lease contract with ATSG, to be followed in 2024 by delivery of two new Boeing 777F.
With the latest delivery to Star Air of a Boeing 767-200 freighter deployed at Leipzig Airport to serve DHL in early January 2021, the fleet today comprises 15 freighters including 12 Boeing 767-200 and three Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
News of the coming fleet expansion is carried in the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group's Q3/2021 report.
-Revenue growth was driven by increased air freight carrier volumes by 40 percent, y-o-y, to 47,700 tonnes, primarily coming from Asia Pacific into North America, the report states.
Contributing to the expected continued steep increase in air cargo volumes is also the acquisition, announced today, of the German logistics provider Senator International.
The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and the transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2022.
Owned by the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group and since May 1, 2021, managed by Peter Corfitsen as CEO, Star Air was founded in 1987 to provide uplift capacity for integrator customers as well as serving as provider of cargo charter capacity.
