Nov 24, 2021 (newstodate): The new Icelandic low-cost PLAY has now taken delivery of another ex-factory A320neo aircraft.
The aircraft, one of three ordered, has been ferried from Airbus' facilities at Hamburg to Ostrava for painting and configuration to PLAY specifications and will start commercial operations from spring 2022 as PLAY launches its Transatlantic operations.
In August 202, PLAY signed an agreement with China Aircraft Leasing Group Holdings Limited for two ex-factory A320neo aircraft.
The aircraft now delivered is slated for arrival in Iceland in March 2022 in time for the change to PLAY's hub-and-spoke business model.
PLAY has received initial approval from the US DOT for launching flights to the United States, and if no objections are filed, PLAY should receive its final approval before the end of this year, allowing the carrier to proceed with preparations for the start of services to the US East coast in H1/2022.
