Nov 18, 2021 (newstodate): In its latest Global Market Forecast 2021-40, published at the Dubai Air Show, Airbus sees a huge demand for freighter aircraft.
Airbus sees the cargo demand, boosted by e-commerce, driven by an expected annual growth by 4.7 percent in the express freight segment, and a growth in general cargo, representing about 75 percent of the total market, by 2.7 percent.
This translates into an overall demand over the coming 20 years for some 2,440 freighter aircraft, of which 880 will be new-built, and 1,560 converted pax aircraft.
By 2040, the world's total freighter fleet will comprise almost 3,000 freighters, including 1,000 aircraft with capacity up to 40 tonnes; 900 will be medium-sized freighters with capacity up to 80 tonnes, while the remaining about 540 aircraft will be large freighter aircraft with capacity over 80 tonnes.
