Nov 30, 2021 (newstodate): The cooperation between the Turkish handling company Havas and airBaltic is coming to an end.
Originally, airBaltic was served at Riga Airport by North Hub Services, established in 2009 by Baltijas Aviacijas Sistemas; but on April 12, 2010, Havas bought 50 percent of the shares in North Hub Services, taking over the handling contract with airBaltic.
Officially, the contract would expire from January 1, 2021, but airBaltic has already started own ground handling from November 2021 as part of the airline's cost improvement program to simplify its business and operations - and in addition enabling the carrier to re-employ part of its former employees.
At the same time, RIX Ground Handling - an operational department of Riga International Airport - has started to provide ramp handling services to airBaltic under a five years contract with airBaltic.
However, the loss of the contract with airBaltic does not mean the full retreat from Riga by Havas that has signed a new agreement with FBO RIGA, securing its sustained presence at the Latvian airport.
With the new agreement, Havaş will carry out all ground handling and de-icing operations of business jets handled by FBO RIGA at Riga Airport until 2024.
