Oct 05, 2021 (newstodate): The new weekly freighter service between Hong Kong and Riga is in the air with the first flight only on September 18, 2021 - but already now a second frequency is being prepared.
-Starting from October 27, 2021, a second flight on Wednesdays will be launched in addition to the existing Saturday flight, says Martynas Bulovicius, Venipak Head of Business Development.
-A second weekly flight will ensure that cargo that for some reason does not hit the planned departure will not have to wait a full week but only a few days before the next flight.
-The freighter from Hong Kong is 100 percent filled with e-trade shipments, and ex-Riga exports from the Baltic markets and Poland to Hong Kong and beyond are growing as well, proving the demand for more capacity to Hong Kong and even Mainland China.
-We are actually working on not just the second frequency on the Hong Kong freighter, but also on adding a second freighter destination from Riga to Asia, with Shanghai, South Korea and Japan as alternatives. I expect a decision to be announced already by November this year.
-In support of these freighter operations a road feeder network to comprise also Finland and the three Scandinavian markets is to be established, and this is now being worked out. Clearly, a second weekly freighter to Hong Kong will enhance the attractiveness of the service among Nordic exporters, also including exporters of Norwegian seafood.
-All in all, Venipak has made a strategic decision to set up this freighter service and shoulders the full financial responsibility for its success.
-So far the response in the market is highly promising, says Mr Bulovicius.
Sales of the cargo capacity on the Boeing 737-800BCF operated by the Russian carrier Atran Airlines has been entrusted to Kales Airline Services in China and Europe, except in the three Baltic markets where Strike Aviation Ltd serves as GSSA.
