Oct 07, 2021 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport is slowly turning from a minus to a plus in cargo volumes 2021.
In September a total of 95 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport - up 49.5 percent, y-o-y.
This brought the volumes handled during January-September 2021 to 437 tonnes, which is only 3.5 percent below the same period in 2020.
Drawing down is still the steep decrease during the first three months of this year.
Mail volumes in September were down 12.8 percent, y-o-y, to 19.8 tonnes, but for January-September the total is now only one percent down on last year, with 172 tonnes.
Still, cargo volumes are far below pre-Covid 2019 when cargo volumes reached 910 tonnes, while mail volumes accrued to 175 tonnes during January-September, roughly the same as in 2021.
