Oct 13, 2021 (newstodate): DHL Express Denmark's coming new parcel sorting terminal at Copenhagen Airport has rounded a corner with a topping-out ceremony on October 12, 2021.
The new facility will become the company's 22nd international hub expected to launch business in 2023, earlier slated for Q4/2022 - but delayed during the Covid-19 situation.
In 2020, the Swedish logistics facilities developer Logistic Contractor won the contract with DHL Express Denmark to build a new 26,000 sq m airside cargo handling and parcel sorting terminal also comprising office space and a maintenance shop, with construction works starting in November 2020.
Already in early 2018, DHL Express bought a 43,116 sq m land plot adjacent to its existing cargo handling terminal, earlier housing the facilities of Gate Gourmet, and plans were then to see the new terminal enter operation by 2023.
The new terminal will have the capacity to sorting of some 37,000 items per hour - five times the current capacity at the existing premises.
