Oct 11, 2021 (newstodate): Belavia has announced the sustained suspension of flights on 28 routes to the EU and Ukraine.
The suspension has now been extended to last so far till December 14, 2021, cutting flights to destinations including Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Helsinki and Stockholm, as well as its two destinations in Ukraine.
While directing its efforts to serving routes between Belarus and Russia, flights to the Russian enclave Kaliningrad on the Baltic coast are also suspended as they involve flights through Lithuanian airspace closed to Belavia and other Belarus carriers.
After the forced detour to Belarus of a Ryanair aircraft on an intra-EU flight from Athens to Vilnius on May 23, 2021, the international response has been a range of economic and political sanctions on Belarus, including flight bans by a number of EU and non-EU countries.
