Oct 04, 2021 (newstodate): Based at Malta, Air Atlanta Europe has now completed the certification process allowing it to launch commercial business.
A subsidiary of the Icelandic cargo/pax charter and ACMI carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic, Air Atlanta Europe was set up in 2020 targeting the launch of operations in 2021 after obtaining its AOC.
The strategic move by Air Atlanta Icelandic aims at strengthening the company’s position in the ACMI and charter market with improved global market reach and access in an increasingly competitive post-Covid-19 ACMI environment.
The carrier received its first aircraft, a Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft, from the mother company.
-Competitiveness is going to be key once we get out of the current market conditions that Covid-19 has inflicted upon us all, Baldvin Mar Hermannsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic CEO, told newstodate in October 2020.
-Air Atlanta is an international carrier, connecting continents, despite being somewhat limited when it comes to both traffic rights and other international treaties that give EU-domiciled airlines certain operating advantages over us. So the setting up the new company in Malta is a logical step to ensure that we can continue to compete on equal footing, in an ever increasingly competitive environment, he said.
