Oct 01, 2021 (newstodate): The fleet of the Icelandic charter and ACMI carrier Air Atlanta Icelandic is heading for a significant growth.
According to Icelandic media, the carrier is currently converting two of its grounded Boeing 747-400 aircraft to all-cargo operations, with the first of these already in the air since September 30, 2021.
And last week, Air Atlanta Icelandic signed a long-term lease contract for two Boeing 747-400 freighters slated to enter commercial service in January and February 2022, respectively
With these additions, the company's freighter fleet will grow to 13 units.
Furthermore, the company has also signed a short-term lease contract for three Airbus A340 freighters to cope with the current rapid growth in demand for cargo operations in the aftermath of the Covid-19 disruption to supply chains.
Only in June 2021, newstodate reported on Air Atlanta Icelandic's quest for capacity to meet customer demands:
-In the current situation, we are unfortunately not able to take in new customers, although the demand is there.
-The limiting factor remains the lack of options for acquiring new aircraft. We have reversed our earlier policy of going only for production freighters; today we would gladly consider acquiring also converted freighters if any suitable units would appear in the marketplace - which is unfortunately not the case, said Unndor Jonsson, Air Atlanta Icelandic VP Sales and Marketing.
As late as November 2020, Air Atlanta Icelandic's fleet still comprised nine Boeing 747-400 freighters and six Boeing 747-400 passenger aircraft, as well as one A340-300.
