Oct 26, 2021 (newstodate): After a sustained period of hesitation concerning the Boeing 737 MAX fleet, Icelandair is planning to add more aircraft of the type.
In the fleet are now nine of 12 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft on firm orders, and the Icelandair Group is in talks with leasing companies for a further three aircraft, bringing the fleet to a total of 15 aircraft by summer 2022.
The airline is now preparing for delivery of the three remaining aircraft around the turn of this year.
In its latest report on Q3/2021, the group sees the return of profits from regular operations for the first time in two years, driven by a successful ramp up over the past months serving 34 international destinations, 11 in North America and 23 in Europe.
Based on the cautiously positive development, the Icelandair Group is also to turn the heat on finalizing a plan for the future long haul fleet, suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic.
