Oct 26, 2021 (newstodate): With the opening of long haul flights from Stockholm Airport, Finnair has become the airport's leading long haul flights operator.
Earlier boasting a position as one of the long haul hubs for SAS, Stockholm Airport is now seeing Finnair operating two weekly flights to Miami, two weekly flights to Bangkok and one weekly flight to Phuket, all operated with Airbus A350 aircraft.
In addition to these routes, Finnair is also opening flights from Stockholm Airport to Los Angles from November, and to New York from December, further bolstering the airline's position in the Swedish long haul market.
The demise of Norwegian's long haul flights dealt a blow to Stockholm Airport, and even after the pandemic SAS has been reluctant to invest in long haul routes from Stockholm, now offering only flights to Miami and New York, while Thai Airways will resume flights from Bangkok to Stockholm with two weekly rotations in this winter schedule.
In the Swedish market, North Air Logistics provides Finnair with cargo GSSA services, while handling of Finnair Cargo is provided by Spirit Air Cargo Handling.
