Jan 19, 2021 (newstodate): On January 15, the Scandinavian carrier SAS performed four test flights within the area of responsibility of the Kaliningrad ATS Center.
The flights over open sea were carried out in accordance with the rules of flights in free routing airspace, FRA, and were serviced by the Kaliningrad ATS Center.
Thanks to the FRA procedure, SAS saved a total of about 715 kg of fuel on the flights.
The test flights were the result of the joint work of specialists from the Main Center of the Unified ATM System, the North-West Air Navigation Branch, and the Kaliningrad ATM Center within the framework of the FSUE State ATM Corporation project to introduce free routing airspace in the Russian Federation.
The purpose of the experiment is to enable airspace users to use the shortest flight routes without being tied to the network of fixed ATS routes
