Jan 12, 2021 (newstodate): Undaunted by the aviation crisis in 2020, flying with half-empty aircraft, and seeing market demand at a sustained low, one carrier is intent on increasing its fleet in 2021: Russia's Red Wings Airlines.
Currently operating a fleet of 15 Airbus A320 and four Superjet 100 aircraft, Red Wings will grow its fleet of Superjet 100 aircraft to 16 by the end of this year, and the fleet of Airbus A320 Family aircraft will grow to 20 units.
Already this month, Red Wings will also take in three wide-body Boeing 777 aircraft formerly operated by VIM-Avia and IrAero, allowing the carrier to add long-haul operations to its schedule.
Its key to success: Red Wings is owned by the manufacturer of the Superjet 100, UAC, and granted preferential treatment by the Russian state in the form of loans, credits and other goodies.
