Jan 05, 2021 (newstodate): In 2020, Norway's exports of fresh salmon to the global marketplace landed almost on a par with the preceding year despite the turbulence caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
A total of 929,768 tonnes of fresh salmon thus ended up on consumers' dishes around the world, only 0.7 percent down on 2019.
The Chinese market, a key driver in normal times, did not contribute to growth, however, with a drop by 28 percent, y-o-y, to 16,676 tonnes, while volumes to Hong Kong were also down by 26 percent to 10,142 tonnes.
By contrast, volumes exported to South Korea rose by 7.5 percent, y-o-y, to 23,891 tonnes in 2020.
