Jan 18, 2021 (newstodate): Aviator Ground Services has been through a tough period in Denmark in 2020/21 - but problems are rising in Norway as well.
Responding to deep cuts in planned traffic by major customers Norwegian and Wizz Air, Aviator has laid off 53 ground handling staff at the airports of Molde, Aalesund, Haugesund, Bodo, Trondheim and Stavanger.
The round of firings thus concerns some 10 percent of the company's about 500 staff at 11 Norwegian stations.
Only in July 2020, prospects still looked promising as Aviator secured agreements to service SAS stations in Tromso, Bergen and Kristiansand from February 2021 and Bardufoss, all in the current 5-year period.
On February 14, 2020, Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group acquired Aviator from its former owner, the investment fund Accent Equity 2008.
Overall, Aviator employs a workforce of some 2,500 staff serving airlines at 11 airports in Norway, three airports in Sweden, and one in Denmark and Finland.
