Jan 25, 2021 (newstodate): Fresh efforts are made to secure a role for Luleaa Kallax Airport in Norway's seafood air logistics.
Behind the latest initiative are Norrland Spedition & Transportation, Swedavia and the Estonian capacity provider Regional Jet aiming at providing a solution to lift seafood shipments from producers in Norway's northern region to Asia and the USA.
The planned new solution will be supported by IT-systems from Maritech Systems that is already a provider to many seafood exporters and forwarders.
The new project aims at going live already in spring 2021.
Over the last two decades, several attempts have been made to set up a dedicated freighter service at Luleaa with operators including Cathay Pacific Cargo, Korean Air Cargo, Atlas Air and others - but so far none have succeeded, in most cases also due to the imbalance in the traffic.
The asset of Luleaa Kallax Airport is its location only 8-12 hours trucking time from seafood producing sites in northern Norway.
