Jan 05, 2021 (newstodate): The Danish engineering and consulting company MT Hojgaard has won the tender for construction of three buildings at Greenland's coming new airport at Nuuk.
Comprised by the contract are a new 7,200 m2 terminal building, a new 3,200 m2 service building and the airport's 230 m2 ATC tower.
Detailed design of the new buildings is starting from this month, with construction works to commence from July 1, 2021; the ATC tower will be completed in June 2022, with the two other buildings to be commissioned one year later as the new airport at Nuuk is opening for flight operations.
The country is currently implementing a new airport infrastructure including reconstruction of the airports at Ilulissat and Nuuk that will have runways extended to 2,200m, and a new airport at Qaqortoq, currently served by a Helipad only, but planned to have a new airport with a 1,499m runway allowing for fixed-wing operations.
