Jan 18, 2021 (newstodate): While cargo on commercial airlines was down by 45.3 percent, y-o-y, at Copenhagen Airport in 2020, the integrators performed unscathed by the Covid-19 pandemic.
A total of 75,635 tonnes of cargo was handled by FedEx and DHL at Copenhagen Airport, unchanged from 2019.
Compared to 2019, the integrators' loads on all-cargo flights increased by 3.4 percent, to 62,890 tonnes, while the insignificant belly cargo loads on passenger flights dropped to a mere 47 tonnes, against 200 tonnes in 2019.
Trucked cargo by FedEx and DHL also declined to 12,698 tonnes, down 13 percent on 2019.
In 2020, the Swedish logistics facilities developer Logistic Contractor won the contract with DHL Express Denmark to build a new 26,000 sq m airside cargo handling and parcel sorting terminal also comprising office space and a maintenance shop, with construction works will start immediately aiming at commissioning of the coming new facility in summer 2022.
Already in early 2018, DHL Express bought a 43,116 sq m land plot adjacent to its existing cargo handling terminal, earlier housing the facilities of Gate Gourmet, and plans were then to see the new terminal enter operation by 2023.
The new terminal will have the capacity to sorting of some 37,000 items per hour.
