Jan 04, 2021 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport handled a total of 67,151 tonnes of cargo in 2020 - down 9.8 percent, y-o-y, but with flown cargo volumes rising significantly.
-Billund Airport has played a key role in handling of PPE air cargo shipments to Denmark in 2020, proving our efficiency in cargo handling and contributing to a respectable full-year result, says Jan Ditlevsen, Billund Airport VP Cargo.
In 2020, trucked cargo between Billund and European airport hubs accrued to 41,098 tonnes, down 20.7 percent, while flown cargo increased by 17 percent, y-o-y, to 26,053 tonnes and constituting 39 percent of the total cargo volume handled, compared to 30 percent in 2019.
In December 2020 alone, the airport handled 6,067 tonnes, up 5.5 percent, y-o-y, including 1,527 tonnes of imports, down 9.9 percent, and 4,540 tonnes of exports that were up by 12 percent.
