Sep 24, 2020 (newstodate): Ukraine International Airlines is returning flights on the route between Kiev and New York FFK after the corona lockdown.
The first flight on the route to be served twice-weekly will be performed on December 9, 2020.
Unique for the concept is the airline's use of a Boeing 737-900ER aircraft on a flight scheduled for 12.5 hours in the air - a performance beyond the capacity of the narrow-body aircraft, which will require an en-route stop for refueling at Iceland's Keflavik Airport.
Low demand in the market has made the operation with wide-body aircraft unsustainable, driving the carrier to go instead for narrow-body service as the market rebounds.
