Sep 11, 2020 (newstodate): The Iranian carrier Mahan Air again seems to be planning the return of services to Copenhagen Airport.
According to available information, Mahan is so far scheduling three flights in October, with the first on October 15, followed by flights on October 18 and 22, respectively, in all cases operated non-stop with Airbus A340-300 aircraft from Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport.
Already in May 2020, news were that Mahan Air was planning for scheduled flights to commence from July 19, 2020, with one weekly rotation.
Starting from June 9, 2016, Mahan Air was operating two weekly rotations between Tehran and Copenhagen with Airbus A340 aircraft, with a third rotation planned to be added from June 13, 2017.
But the route was closed down again already from March 2017, allegedly after an inspection detected that the airline carried armed air marshals, which is not permitted under Danish law.
Since December 2011, USA has enforced harsh sanctions on Mahan Air, accusing it of illegally transporting military equipment, personnel and munitions into Syria and other war zones.
Many European countries including France, Italy, Germany and Spain have banned Mahan Air from their airspace, and the carrier was also formerly on the EU Commission's black-list in 2007 over safety concerns, but lifted off the list again in 2008.
