Sep 01, 2020 (newstodate): No doubt, Norwegian is still struggling an uphill battle for survival - but optimism still reigns.
-During September, Norwegian will ramp up production further by going from the current 20 airplanes in service to 25 airplanes in service, and that number could increase further to 30 already during this winter season, writes Emil Sorensen, Norwegian Boeing 737 pilot on his LinkedIn site.
-At the same time Norwegian monitors the current situation closely. Potentially, the demand for travel could increase very rapidly following changing travel restrictions.
-The final goal at the moment is to increase production further to approximately 110 airplanes as demand increases. The future fleet will include 20-22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, and the goal is still to prove the low-cost, long-haul concept, Mr Sorensen writes.
In an interview with the UK magazine Travel Weekly, Norwegian CEO Jacob Schram aired his expectations to see a return to full production from 2022.
-We see three stages going forward. We want to compete on mobility going forward to 2030, but we need to be profitable in 2025. First, we need to come through the winter, Mr Schram said.
