Sep 28, 2020 (newstodate): The sustained Covid-19 crisis forced Wizz Air to postpone the opening til December of its base at St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport, in Russia.
The carrier has now published the launch of services from St Petersburg to so far nine destinations, including four routes to the Scandinavian and Baltic markets.
Flights to Copenhagen will thus commence from December 4, 2020, with initially three rotations going up to four from December 20.
Flights to Oslo will start up from December 15, 2020, with three weekly rotations, and flights to Stockholm Skavsta will commence from December 15, 2020, with three rotations.
Serving the Baltic market, flights to Vilnius will be launched from December 6 with two weekly rotations on the route.
With its new Russian base, the carrier will be in a position to fully exploit the 7th Freedom Rights allowing it to carry passengers or cargo between two foreign countries without any continuing service to its own country, as well as the visa-free access to the region, enforced from the start of 2020.
