Sep 15, 2020 (newstodate): Based at Lithuania's Siauliai Airport, the aircraft maintenance company Aviatic MRO has landed a strategic cooperation agreement with Israel's leading aerospace and MRO company, Israel Aerospace Industries.
The agreement opens up for two significant developments at Siauliai Airport: one is cooperation in establishing a civil aviation aircraft service center, another is cooperation on conversion of Boeing 737 passenger aircraft to cargo version.
The cooperation agreement also comprises the establishment of a dual-purpose and military aircraft service base for aircraft such as the C-130 Hercules, C-27J Spartan and Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk, Airbus H-Series helicopters, as well as drones.
Aviatic MRO is currently constructing a 23,000 sq m aircraft maintenance and repair center at Siauliai International Airport, scheduled to start operations in 2022.
A former Soviet air base, Siauliai Airport with a 3,500m CAT 1 runway and a second 3,280m runway is today a key air base serving the NATO air forces supporting the monitoring of NATO's Baltic airspace.
