Sep 10, 2020 (newstodate): The effects from the Covid-19 pandemic is turning everything upside down in the aviation world as well..
One example is traffic at Iceland's Keflavik Airport, where the national carrier Icelandair would normally reign supreme.
Not in September 2020; in the first week of this month, Icelandair's traffic is surpassed by the Hungarian LCC Wizz Air.
During the week, Wizz Air operated 26 flights, while Icelandair performed only 19 flights from Keflavik after canceling 49 out of 68 scheduled flights.
Wizz Air currently operates flights from 10 destinations to Keflavik, including London, Vienna, Dortmund, Milan, Budapest and five destinations in Poland.
The carrier made its debut in the Icelandic market with its first flight from Gdansk, in Poland, on June 19, 2015.
