Sep 11, 2020 (newstodate): A former key member of the team behind the planned Icelandic low-cost carrier PLAY has filed a claim in the Reykjavík District Court requesting the bankruptcy of the airline.
Bogi Gudmundsson, former Play Sales and Marketing Managing Director, filed his case against the airline over arrears of wages and loans granted to the company.
In a release, PLAY however states that the company's auditor has confirmed the company's viability and that the company can meet the obligations it has undertaken.
-The company now has 36 employees, all getting ready for the first flight, PLAY says.
According to PLAY's original strategy, among the airline's first destinations from Keflavik would be London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Paris, Alicante and Tenerife, and from 2020 plans comprised flights to four destinations in North America, with options including Boston, New York, Baltimore, and Toronto.
This strategy has now been scaled down, and the current Covid-19 lockdown has further blocked the airline from taking to the air.
