Sep 21, 2020 (newstodate): airBaltic has now grown its fleet of Airbus A220-300 aircraft to 23, with the latest delivery on September 19, 2020.
The aircraft landing at Riga Airport after the delivery flight from Montreal may probably be the most well-tested aircraft in the fleet, having performed its first test flight in the series on May 23, 2020, while since nestling in Canada as the Covid-19 crisis deepened.
In August 2020, airBaltic and Airbus signed an agreement on a revised Airbus A220-300 delivery schedule for the remaining 28 aircraft by then on firm orders.
Under the agreement, airBaltic would take delivery of the last of the remaining 28 Airbus A220-300 in this batch by early 2024, earlier slated for 2023.
In the fleet are now 23 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with so far only two new aircraft delivered in 2020, while two more will follow before the end of this year.
airBaltic has however not revealed details of the plans for delivery of the remaining aircraft on firm orders.
Since May 2020, airBaltic operates all of its flights with a single aircraft type – Airbus A220-300, having retired all 12 Bombardier Q400 aircraft, leased from Nordic Aviation Capital under a contract expiring in 2023, while the parties are reportedly negotiating an earlier redelivery scheme.
