Sep 14, 2020 (newstodate): On the slightly bright side, Finnair's cargo volumes in August 2020 were up by 13.7 percent against July 2020, mostly due to strong demand related to the scheduled cargo capacity.
Still, there is little cause for celebration in times of Covid-19; the carrier lifted a total of only 4,050 tonnes of cargo in August 2019, down 73.4 percent, y-o-y, bringing the volumes in January-August 2020 to 48,131 tonnes which is down 57 percent, y-o-y.
Of the 4,050 tonnes in August, scheduled traffic accounted for 2,606 tones, down 82.9 percent, y-o-y, while the remaining 1,444 tonnes were lifted on all-cargo flights.
On the crucial Asian lanes, the carrier lifted a total of 2,230 tonnes, down 79.6 percent, y-o-y, in August 2020.
The carrier returned services on the route from Helsinki to Shanghai from July 16, 2020; and from September 11, 2020, the carrier is also back on the route with Airbus A350 aircraft with one weekly rotations from Helsinki.
