Sep 25, 2020 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways may feel a bit relieved by SAS' decision to suspend flights from Copenhagen during the coming winter schedule.
SAS will thus perform its last flight on the route between Vagar Airport and Copenhagen Airport on September 29, 2020, returning only by the start of the next summer schedule 2021 and leaving Atlantic Airways alone again on the trunk route between the two markets.
SAS made its entry on the route with the first flight on April 27, 2017, breaking the virtual monopoly enjoyed by the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways that has been operating on the route on March 28, 1988.
Atlantic Airways is, however, not free from worries as the effects from the Covid-19 crisis has greatly reduced the travel market.
As a result, the carrier is applying to its owner, the Faroese state, for an aid package to support its financial plights.
