Sep 10, 2020 (newstodate): According to Swedavia statistics, Stockholm Arlanda Airport handled a total of 53,861 tonnes of cargo during the first eight months of this year.
Gothenburg, the country's second largest airport, handled 12,325 tonnes during the period, while Malmo Airport handled 13,696 tonnes during January-August 2020.
Direct comparisons to volumes in the same period in 2019 are, however, misleading as Swedavia changed the reporting system in 2020.
It is, however, remarkable that Malmo Airport has overtaken Gothenburg in cargo volumes.
This is probably due to Malmo Airport's rather stable integrator traffic, while both Stockholm and Gothenburg rely heavily on belly-cargo and trucked cargo, strongly affected by the sustained low volumes of passenger flights during the global Coronavirus lockdown.
