Sep 02, 2020 (newstodate): All scheduled commercial passenger flights were transferred from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Istanbul Airport on April 6, 2019, leaving only freighter operations at Ataturk Airport.
This situation calls for a massive operation to transfer cargo shipments between belly and all-cargo flights.
Undertaking the task for Turkish Cargo is the Turkish trucking company Ortadogu Lojistik that since April 2019 has carried some 500,000 tonnes of cargo on 30,000 road trips between the two airports, corresponding to a distance of 1,650,000 km.
Not exactly an environment-friendly solution...
So far no date has been announced for the transfer of freighter operations from Istanbul Ataturk Airport to Instanbul's new airport.
