Aug 14, 2020 (newstodate): Based at Evenes close to the salmon production sites in northern Norway, Perishable Center Nord is targeting the start of scheduled freighter services by early October 2020.
With Stig Winther as its CEO, Perishable Center Nord was established earlier in 2020 with main shareholders including Nordlaks Opdrett, Ellingsen Seafood, Salfra and Astafjord Export.
-All pertinent GSE is now in place, including Hi-loader, dollies and other equipment, and Perishable Center Nord has taken over a 1,000 sq m hangar earlier used by Kato-Air for palletizing the seafood shipments, says Stig Winther.
-We are also deep into negotiations with airlines and are encouraged by the fact that carriers acknowledge the growing importance of the seafood production in northern Norway as sea temperatures rise.
-There is indeed an interest among these carriers to lift shipments out of Eveness Airport to fill freighters on their return flights between Europe and China, says Mr Winther.
With Evenes Airport's location close to the production sites, only some 2.5 hours are required for the seafood shipments to be on-board the freighter ready for flight, compared to trucking times to Oslo Airport requiring up to 20 hours on the road
