Aug 07, 2020 (newstodate): Good news for Norway's exporters of seafood to Asia: the Russian Government has lifted its embargo on Western perishable commodities.
The embargo was abruptly enforced from August 2019, creating troubles in the seafood air logistics and forcing AirBridgeCargo to re-route its two scheduled freighter flights from Oslo to Moscow through Kazakh airports - before suspending the services entirely.
-Aeroflot can now accept all kinds of perishable shipments for import and transfer through Moscow with effect from August 1, 2020. In this region, this is of course of special concern for all Norwegian and Danish seafood exporters, says Denis Khmelevskiy, Aeroflot Regional Cargo Manager Nordics and Baltics.
-While flights were on hold, we have completely revamped our perishables infrastructure and procedures at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, allowing us to perform quick ramp transfers of seafood and other perishables from one flight to another in less than three hours, down from previously eight hours.
-Aeroflot's shipments are handled on a priority basis by re-trained and re-certified ground staff; new temperature-controlled trucks and dollies have been deployed, and a new sheltered temperature-controlled airside transfer zone has been set up to facilitate a quick and secure transfer of perishables between connecting flights, says Mr Khmelevskiy.
