Aug 18, 2020 (newstodate): Norwegian may be considering reopening its base at Copenhagen Airport pending a successful outcome of initial negotiations with the Danish trade unions.
As of now, Norwegian flights in the Danish market are performed with Norwegian crews after the carrier filed for bankruptcy in April 2020 of its three Danish companies Norwegian Pilot Services Denmark ApS, Norwegian Cabin Services Denmark ApS and Norwegian Air Resources Denmark LH ApS.
However, Norwegian has now reached an agreement with the Danish union FPU, Flyvebranchens Personale Union, that will undertake to negotiate a future agreement on behalf on both cabin and cockpit crew members, should Norwegian eventually decided to reopen a base at Copenhagen Airport.
Norwegian launched Copenhagen Airport as its 5th base in 2008 but closed down again in 2019 as the carrier ran into dire financial straits, further aggravated by the corona pandemic in 2020.
The reopening of a Norwegian base at Copenhagen Airport would at least not be thanks to the support of the Danish state that earlier rejected any financial support to the carrier, bolstering instead its traditional ties with SAS.
