Aug 05, 2020 (newstodate): The low-cost carrier Norwegian is still to fully emerge from its financial mire - but the airline is alive and kicking..
After a sustained period of grounding of all flights during the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic, plans for September include flights on 46 routes from Copenhagen, flights on 50 routes out of Stockholm - and flights on 75 routes out of its Norwegian hub at Oslo Airport.
Conspicuously absent from the list of Nordic airports to be served by Norwegian is Helsinki, in Finland.
In April 2010, Norwegian started operating flights to Helsinki from Stockholm and Oslo, bolstering its presence in the market by setting up an operational base at Helsinki Airport from spring 2011, and growing to a position as the second-largest airline operating at Helsinki Airport.
In the original pre-coronavirus summer schedule, Norwegian planned for direct non-stop flights from Helsinki to 21 international destinations as well as flights on a domestic route network in Finland.
On the positive side, Norwegian may be considering reopening its base at Copenhagen Airport pending a successful outcome of negotiations with the Danish trade unions.
As of now, Norwegian flights in the Danish market are performed with Norwegian crews after the carrier filed for bankruptcy in April 2020 of its three Danish companies Norwegian Pilot Services Denmark ApS, Norwegian Cabin Services Denmark ApS and Norwegian Air Resources Denmark LH ApS.
