Aug 19, 2020 (newstodate): In general, volumes of Norwegian salmon to the Asian markets are still marked by restrained demand during the times of pandemic.
In week 33 2020, China thus took only 151 tonnes of salmon compared to 505 in 2019, and during weeks 1-33, 2020, volumes were still 35 percent down on last year's total of 15,570 tonnes.
In week 33, Hong Kong took 147 tonnes compared to 255 in 2019, and so far into 2020 the market has seen a drop by 20 percent, y-o-y.
By contrast, South Korea remains a strong market for Norway's fresh salmon, importing 445 tonnes in week 33, on a par with 2019, while volumes during the first 33 weeks of this year are actually up by 5.5 percent to a total of 14,143 tonnes.
