Aug 26, 2020 (newstodate): The air cargo infrastructure at Moscow's Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport is now in place, allowing for the Russian cargo carrier Sky Gates Airlines to settle.
Zhukovsky Airport was selected by the country's newcomer to the cargo industry, Sky Gates Airlines to serve as its hub, but in October 2016 the carrier decided to move operations instead to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport as Zhukovsky had still not completed the pertinent cargo terminal infrastructure.
This has now been remedied with the opening on July 9, 21020, of the ZIA CARGO logistics complex comprising a 9,200 sq m cargo terminal with a temporary storage warehouse, customs infrastructure, storage areas for VALs, dangerous, heat-sensitive goods and live animals, and an 90,000 sq m platform allowing the parking of four wide-body cargo aircraft.
In H1/2020, 410 freighter movements were handled at Zhukovsky Airport, expected to reach some 950 by year-end carrying some 12,000 tonnes of cargo, and rising to some 1,200 movements in 2021.
