Aug 31, 2020 (newstodate): Strongly affected by the sanctions regime, Iran is still finding byways to supplement its western aircraft fleet.
A most recent example is the acquisition in June 2020 of two Airbus A310 aircraft that are now entering commercial services with Iran Airtour, established in 1973 as a subsidiary of Iran Air.
The two aircraft were formerly operated by the Romanian carrier TAROM until 2018, and were sold to Aircompany Armenia that transferred the aircraft to Tehran for maintenance.
Instead, they have now ended up with Iran Airtours for flights on domestic routes.
Like Iran Airtours, Aircompany Armenia is included on the EU Air Safety List, banned from operating into EU airspace.
